ふげん社では、アーティストや鑑賞者、さまざまな国の人たちが、それぞれの垣根を超えてアートについて自由に語り合う場「ART SALON at Fugensha」を、毎月開催しています。

毎回、作品を発表するゲストアーティストを招き、簡単なトークテーマを設けます。
参加者は、トークテーマについて、プレゼンテーションについて、自由にお話します。

国籍を問わず集まっていただきたいので、英語と日本語の2ヶ国語で運営しております。

「ART SALON at Fugensha」は皆さんと作り上げていく場です。
アートについて意見交換をしたい方、アートの新しい話題や出会いを求めている方、思考の転回をしたい方、英語を話す機会を求めている方、ぜひお気軽にご参加ください。

英語を話すのは苦手という方でも、アートについてお話したいという意欲がある方のご参加も歓迎いたします。

A big part of MY life story is turning negative situations into positive value. I follow the buddhist concept called Changing Poison into Medicine   変毒為薬 (hendoku-iyaku).   This is a theme in my music and in my book.

■プロフィール

Jay Crystall　writer of ‘Lovesic in Kyoto’ and songwriter

アメリカ、ニューヨーク出身。2011年より京都在住。
主宰する「英会話・文化スクールＷＡＶＥ」では、異文化体験と言語学習を融合させたユニークな学習法で子どもから大人まで幅広い層の生徒から支持を受けている。個人でも大学、企業、病院等に赴き、英語指導に努める。シンガーソングライターとしての活動も盛んで、多文化共生への想いを音楽に込め各地でライヴを披露している。

著書『Lovesic in Kyoto』

アメリカ人の視点から京都を綴ったエッセイ。
ニューヨークに産まれ育った著者が、日本に在住するようになったこれまでの人生の旅を振り返り、京都でのドラマに満ちた生活を語る。
「京都＝古い」イメージを壊す、現代人による現代的目線がポイント。この古都がいかに美しさと創造性に溢れ、芸術家にインスピレーションをもたらすか。音楽活動に情熱を注いできた「アーティスト」である著者自身が、その愛を伝える。
アメリカ人の眼に映る日本文化・日本人像がユーモアに語られるが、著者の異文化理解・多文化共生の想いの根底には、仏教徒としての視点があることも興味深い。
言語の壁や日常の多くの困難を乗り越え、情熱と共に行動する在り方は、夢を持つ全ての人を勇気づける。

Fugen hosts a monthly “ART SALON at Fugensha” where artists, viewers and people from various countries can freely talk about art across their borders.

We invite guest artists to present their works every time and set up a simple talk theme.
Participants are free to talk about talk themes and presentations.

We would like you to come regardless of your nationality, so we are operating in two languages, English and Japanese.

“ART SALON at Fugensha” is a place where we can work together to create something.
Please feel free to join us if you want to exchange ideas about art, seek new topics or encounters in art, change your mind, or find opportunities to speak English.

Even if you are not good at speaking English, we welcome those who want to talk about art.

・Jay Crystall　biography

He is from New York, the United States. He has lived in Kyoto since 2011.
The “English conversation and culture school WAVE” which he presides, is a unique learning method combining cross-cultural experience and language learning, and is supported by a wide range of students from children to adults. Individuals also visit universities, companies, hospitals and other institutions to teach English. He is also active as a singer-songwriter, and he shows his thought for multicultural harmony in his music in various places.

His book “Lovesic in Kyoto”

An essay on Kyoto from an American point of view.
The author, who was born and raised in New York, recalled his life’s journey to live in Japan and talked about life filled with drama in Kyoto.
“Kyoto = Old” Check out the modern perspective of modern people that destroyed the image. How beautiful and creative this ancient city was and how it inspired artists. The author, a “Artist” who has devoted himself to music activities, conveys his love.
It is interesting that the author’s idea of understanding and symbiosis with different cultures was based on his Buddhist perspective.
The way he overcome language barriers and many difficulties in his daily lives and act with passion encourages everyone who has dreams.
